The development team over at Tarnished Games has put a great deal of effort into the presentation and production of the game, and we recently had the chance to dig into the high points of the game. Shadowy Lands Tarnished Gold can be described as a combination of two unique genres: “Sword and Wizardry” and “JRPG.” However, if you’re thinking of putting together a short list of Sword and Wizardry games to see which ones have a combination of high-end visuals and epic adventure, we would like to suggest that you look at recent titles like Shadow of the Colossus, Xillia, and Fire Emblem. What better example of the perfect combination? From the start, you will be seeing a world that other fantasy games have been trying to portray for years, but never quite succeeded at creating. Realistic 3D environments, detailed character models, and beautiful character portraits are all aspects that help sell Tarnished Gold’s grand fantasy world, but the game is overflowing with them. What we’ve been told was a “proof of concept” demo given to press ahead of Tarnished Games’ Kickstarter on April 19th, showed a flat, brown terrain that would probably look like the floor of an RPG or FPS. However, after the game was published, the teams at Tarnished Games, Foundry 42, and Bluehole had a chance to put their artistic vision to the test in the game’s first character-customization screen. First off, you can change the background color of the screen, which will affect the game’s visual quality and performance.
